The purpose of these roles is to guide and host our guests on our all-inclusive, small group adventure travel trips in and around New Zealand.
Our guides are responsible for taking our guests around different parts of the country on a scheduled itinerary hiking, biking, dining and staying in beautiful destinations along the way.
Our trips range in length from 5-14 days. The objective is to provide our guests with a safe and awe inspiring experience when travelling to New Zealand with Active Adventures, creating a memorable trip of a lifetime for them. Our summer season starts early October and goes through until late March to early April.
Daily responsibilities include providing informative Hiking Guiding on a variety of tracks and trails, providing exceptional customer service, caring for our guests, driving our vehicles safely and legally throughout the duration of the trip (Hiking Guide Driver only) and arranging, preparing and/or cooking well presented meals for the duration of the trip (Hiking Guide Cook only).
Experience and skills required:
- Hiking Guide Drivers – individuals who are keen to guide, host, drive, hike and much more. You must have a Class 2 license, P endorsement and Food Safety Certificate (or the willingness to obtain prior to employment commencing).
- Hiking Guide Cooks – individuals who are keen to guide, host, cook, hike and much more. You must be confident in the kitchen and have a Food Safety Certificate (or willingness to obtain prior to employment commencing).
- Both roles:
- A passion for meeting new people
- Experience and knowledge of hiking safely in the NZ outdoors
- Able to communicate and relate with a diverse range of people
- Ability to work independently with a variety of co workers and suppliers throughout the country
- An ability and willingness to learn a new wide range of skills
- Leadership skills
- Individuals who are punctual, enthusiastic, motivated and professional
- Clear verbal communication skills
- Safety conscious at all times
- Ability to pass a pre employment drug and alcohol test
- Food Safety Certificate
- Ability to be away from home for up to 14 days

About Active Adventures
The Active Adventures HQ is located in Queenstown, New Zealand, with operational bases in Christchurch (New Zealand), Billings, (USA), Lima and Cuzco (Peru), Barcelona (Spain), and Kathmandu (Nepal). Seasonally, we hire local Hiking Guides Drivers and Hiking Guides Cooks in New Zealand each year. In our other destinations, we hire Trip Leaders and Guides on demand.

Active Adventures work with international guides that are trained to guide in Nepal. They work closely with our operational team in Nepal to deliver our Active Adventures Himalayas experience.
European Qualified Guides
Hired and trained as required locally with Active Adventures international trip leaders joining the operational team in Europe on the ground from time to time.
Behind-the-scenes HQ Team
As we continue to grow and evolve, occasionally roles become available in the office. Active Adventures is hiring for our Digital Acquisition Specialist

This role extends across Active Adventures and Austin Adventures, two adventure travel brands who have set the standard for inspiring, all-inclusive, small-group adventures in the most breath-taking regions of the world.
Focusing on digital acquisition, you will be working on digital media and performance marketing channels to reach, engage, and most importantly convert people into leads and bookings. This role sits within our globally distributed marketing team, but requires close collaboration with internal stakeholders (e.g. digital product, sales) as well as external agencies and partners.
General Responsibilities
- Manage our digital paid media accounts (search, social, display, video, etc) in close collaboration with our agency, and under the direction of our Chief Growth Officer
- Continuously optimise our performance marketing activities to maximise conversions within set efficiency guardrails (e.g. target CPA)
- “Always be testing” – ad copy, creative, audiences, landing pages, and more to drive greater performance and efficiencies
- Manage our social media accounts, taking responsibility not just for regular posting but also community management
- Help set up and champion a multi-brand taxonomy for improved marketing attribution. Ensure that tracking is enabled across digital and offline channels.
- Support the Marketing team with the planning and execution of campaigns
- Support with the execution of SEO initiatives
- Support with website testing and CRO initiatives
- Analyse data around ad interactions, website usage and behaviour, and customer journeys to derive insights, identify opportunities, and inform decision-making
- Build paid media reports and Analytics dashboards as necessary to demonstrate progress towards KPIs. Pull and reconcile data from multiple data sources (GA4, HubSpot, PowerBI) to produce meaningful insights on acquisition growth
- Collaborate with all levels and departments in the company to continually improve the customer journey, enhance customer satisfaction, and increase leads and bookings
Qualifications & Experience
- 5+ years of experience in a similar role
- Proven track record in performance marketing and paid media management
- Good grasp of fundamental SEO, website UX, and A/B testing principles
- Highly data-driven mindset, always leaning on research and data to inform decision making. Values objectivity over subjectivity, function over form.
- Able to work both independently and within a team, with the confidence to deal directly with senior leadership and external partners – even with some based overseas
- Flexible to adjust to evolving priorities
- Strong attention to detail
- Global or international marketing experience desired but not required – experience in North American market would be highly advantageous
- Portfolio experience (multiple brands) desired but not required
- Working rights in New Zealand and the ability to work out of our Christchurch or Queenstown offices. Hybrid work (mix of in-office and remote work) will be considered for promising candidates who live within driving distance to, but not within, Christchurch or Queenstown.
